Cardon International Sponsorship Program Application


The Cardon International Sponsorship (CIS) program is a scholarship and loan program for international applicants to the Marriott School of Management MBA, MPA, MAcc, or MISM programs. CIS recipients receive the following:
  • Scholarship: tuition, textbooks, and health insurance during the graduate program
  • Loan: living expenses (rent, food, and utilities) during the graduate program; must be repaid after graduation

Program Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for CIS consideration. Only applicants that meet the criteria below should submit a CIS application:
  1. Admission to a Marriott School of Management graduate program (MBA, MPA, MAcc, or MISM). The CIS application should be submitted with the graduate program application by the appropriate graduate program application deadline; a CIS decision only be made after admission to a graduate program is granted.
  2. Must return to home country or region after graduation
  3. Must not be a U.S. or Canadian citizen nor hold dual citizenship or permanent residency
  4. Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in good standing
  5. Must be married to a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who is not a U.S. or Canadian citizen
  6. Applicant and spouse must hold and maintain current LDS temple recommends
  7. Must have significant church service, such as serving a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or other leadership positions
  8. Must be committed to repaying the CIS loan within 10 years and 6 months after graduation from a Marriott School of Management graduate program
  9. Must not have not lived in the U.S. for more than one year prior to entering a Marriott School of Management graduate program
  10. Must be able to pay a portion of the costs of the graduate education and living expenses from personal resources.Students that are approved for the CIS program are required to submit a minimum deposit of $2000 to BYU which will be used for medical and dental emergencies, for necessary living expenses during spring and summer terms,for return travel home and other necessary expenses as approved by the CIS committee
  11. Applicant and applicant's spouse must not pursue a PhD or joint degree program during or after the Marriott School of Management graduate program
  12. Must have enough funds to cover living expenses during the Spring and Summer terms at BYU (CIS funds are only available for Fall and Winter semesters. However, insurance is provided during Spring and Summer terms.)
  13. CIS students are required to maintain both academic standards and the BYU Honor Code.Failure to do so could jeopardize participation in the CIS programs

Additional Information

  1. CIS participants are personally responsible to find and secure an internship between the first and second year of the graduate program, or must have sufficient non-CIS funds to support themselves and their family during the spring/summer break (four months). CIS loans are not available for this time period.
  2. Priority is given to students who have a guarantee of employment in home country after graduation.
  3. Students will be sponsored on a J-1 visa which allows spouses to apply for working status and does not allow for conversion to the H1B working visa after graduation. It does allow for 18 months of academic training (employment) during and after the program.
  4. BYU will obtain all CIS applicants' credit reports for use in evaluating their credit worthiness.
