Department Scholarships

Because MBA students are not allowed to work during the first year of the program, MBA Program (department) scholarship money is awarded to first-year students. Criteria used to determine scholarship awards include GMAT, GPA, work experience, and special financial needs. Scholarship awards average $2,500 for the first year. Department scholarships are awarded after the admission process is complete and the entering class is confirmed.

Private Scholarship

Second-year MBA students are eligible for numerous private scholarships available through the Dean's Office of the Marriott School. The application for private scholarships is available online beginning in March at http://marriottschool.byu.edu/aid/scholarship. In addition, there are numerous teaching assistantships and research assistantships available for second-year students.

Hawes Scholar Award

The prestigious Hawes Scholar awards honor the top all-around second-year MBA students as evidenced by academic excellence, leadership maturity, ethics and values commitment, and devotion to the Marriott School mission. This is a designation that follows students as they leave the Marriott School MBA Program, indicating that they are among the top students obtaining a Marriott School MBA. In addition to the honor this represents, the Hawes Scholars receive a grant of $10,000 to help defray the costs of their MBA degree. Rodney J. Hawes, Jr., and his wife, Beverly, sponsor these awards. All MBA students are automatically considered for this scholarship; therefore, no application is necessary.
