Admission Criteria

Preparing to Apply

Competition to get into the accounting major is high. About 65 percent of applicants are admitted.

In order to have a strong application, we recommend taking the following steps:

  • Earn good grades in the prerequisite courses. The minimum prerequisite GPA to apply is 3.0, but the average prerequisite GPA of admitted students in 2016 was 3.85.
  • Take other recommended courses: M COM 320 and ECON 110.
  • Substantially complete GE courses.
  • Prerequisite GPA and overall BYU GPA are considered.

Most students apply after their sophomore year.

The application is due on the last business day of June at 4:30 p.m. All prerequisites must be completed in order to apply.
