DarleneDARLENE F. BURGI

BORN: 20 June 1944 in Chicago, Illinois

Darlene Burgi's father was in the United States Navy at the time of her birth in Chicago, Illinois. She was raised in Morgantown, Kentucky.

Darlene earned a B.S. in child development and family relations from Brigham Young University in 1966. A week after graduation from BYU Darlene married, moved to Chula Vista, California, and began raising a family. She also resumed her schooling to earn a teaching certificate at San Diego State University.

In 1969 the family moved to Kentucky, where Darlene completed her certification at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, while she taught third grade at Morgantown Elementary from August 1969 to May 1972. She then retired to the home and was a full time wife and mother for eleven years.

In 1983 Darlene returned to Western Kentucky University to earn a master's degree in elementary education. During this time she was a graduate assistant serving in the audio-visual lab training teaching majors in the use and care of audio-visual equipment. After earning her master's degree in elementary education in 1984, Darlene substituted in the Kentucky Christian County School District for two years.

After moving back to Provo in 1986, Darlene decided to change careers and began secretarial training at Utah Valley State College. She wanted to work at BYU, and in December 1986 she was hired as the department secretary for the Army ROTC.

Darlene is the mother of seven children (six sons and one daughter). She is expecting her fourteenth grandchild August 2009.
