During the second semester of the program, students will attend a meeting where options will be discussed regarding continuing with the bachelor’s or master’s degree. Students may apply to continue in the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program in Professional Accountancy or Tax, or students may choose to continue with their BS degree in accountancy. Students admitted into the MAcc program will receive both the BS in accountancy and MAcc degrees at graduation.
SOA students who are currently in the Accounting Jr. Core who wish to apply for the MAcc program must complete the Bachelor’s/Master’s Decision Form (https://marriottschool.byu.edu/decision/) by March 31 of the year they wish to enter the MAcc program. The application includes a $50 University application fee and a Statement of Intent or personal essay. The MAcc program begins in the fall semester, and not all who apply to enter the MAcc program are admitted. The primary admission criteria are Jr. Core grades. All applicants will be notified via email by the end of May as to whether or not they have been accepted. The GMAT is waived if you are a student who has completed the BYU Accounting Jr. Core.
SOA students who are currently in the Accounting Jr. Core who will continue in the undergraduate program and receive their BS degree in accountancy will also complete the Bachelor’s/Master’s Decision Form (https://marriottschool.byu.edu/decision/) by March 31 of the year they finish the Jr. Core. A student will have one year to complete the bachelor’s degree after completing his/her last accounting class. If the degree is not completed within that time, the student will be discontinued from the SOA.
