Make the Most of Your Internship
If you have received an internship, congratulations! Here are some ideas to help you make the most out of that experience.
Define Expectations
Early in the course of your internship meet with your supervisor or mentor to discuss their expectations of you for the internship. Ask them to define what would make your time with the employer a success. This is important as it will help you to guide your time and efforts over the course of the internship. Receiving defined expectations from your supervisor will allow you to surpass them and increase your chances of receiving a full-time offer at the end of your internship.
Take Initiative
When you have time available seek new responsibilities or projects. Work to maximize your time while you are at work providing the best value. When you see opportunities for yourself step up and go after them.
Be Self-Sufficient
Quickly learn the resources available to you as an intern an utilize them to be as self-sufficient as possible. Proving you can excel at the employer without great difficulty will be key in receiving a full-time offer to return.
Learn About the Business
Use every opportunity available to learn about the business. How are they successful? What sets them apart from competition? What opportunities are available in their industry? Learn as much as you can as the knowledge you gain will help you dramatically in your full-time job search.
Network
Make as many friends as you can. The more good contacts you make within the organization the more opportunities you will have in it. Never stop networking.
Be Responsible
Work hard, exhibit integrity, and show great focus. Doing these types of things will show the employer that you have responsibility to handle critical projects and enhance your value.
