be involved

Determining which career and employers to target in your job search can be challenging. Being involved in various opportunities on and off campus can help you learn more about various careers and companies.

  1. Be Involved -- Look up the clubs and service opportunities on BYU Campus and in the community. Through clubs and service you can discover more about yourself and your interest. If you are interested in targeting a specific industry, there are a number of Marriott School clubs which are based on banking, consulting, and technology. Participation in club events and networking with club members will help you know which companies in your targeted industry have a recruiting relationship with BYU and how to pursue those opportunities. Marriott School clubs will also help you discover more about the industry and career you are interested in.

  3. Continue looking into companies and attend events they hold. Use eRecruiting as a resource. It lists all of the companies holding formal interviews on-campus, as well as those holding resume drops. Often companies host Information Sessions. Attend these Information Sessions to learn about what companies do, the preparation required to be considered for a job or internships, etc.
  4. Attend other events held by companies, on or off-campus. Consulting Night and Meet the Firms are a couple of opportunities worth looking into.  Consulting Night will be on October 12, 2011 from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Hinckley Building.
  5. Attend the semi-annual University Career Fair at the Wilkinson Center (WSC), as it is a great chance to visit with potential employers and get a feeling for what interests you. The Career Fair will be held in the WSC Ballroom from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm on September 28. 2011. Check eRecruiting for more details.
In addition to the previously mentioned resources, the Business Career Center has counselors who can offer insights into the best potential employers in any industry (business oriented). Feel free to contact the center and make an appointment. Continue to explore to find out what may interest you.

The key to your success will be getting involved in various events and using resources early in your career decision phases so that you can be best prepared for employment opportunities as you near graduation.
