Courses for Business Majors

While the Center for Entrepreneurship offers a number of courses specifically focused on entrepreneurship, the mainstream curriculum of the Marriott School provides valuable course work to prepare entrepreneurs for the adventures and struggles in owning their own business.

Students accepted into the Marriott School Business Management Program start with a "core" set of classes in finance, marketing, production, and organizational behavior.  Business students will also declare an area of emphasis in which they will do 12-15 hours of undergraduate work.

The Center for Entrepreneurship provides an emphasis track in entrepreneurship. Many of these courses may also be taken as electives for business majors in other areas of emphasis. The following are the requirements to fill the Entrepreneur Emphasis.

Complete the major requirements:

  • Premanagement Core courses
  • Management Core 1 courses
  • Management Core 2 courses
  • Integrated Management Core courses

Complete one of the following specialization courses:

  • BusM 454 Professional Selling and Sales Management(Fall and Winter)
  • BusM 479 Creating and Managing New Ventures (Fall and Winter)

Complete two courses from the following:

  • BusM 462 Services Management(Fall and Winter)
  • BusM 475 Financing New Ventures (Fall and Winter)
  • BusM 538 Managing Entrepreneurial Firms and Family Businesses
  • BusM 568 Entrepreneurial Marketing(Winter)

Complete 3 elective hours from upper-division Marriott School courses.

Other Recommended Courses:

  • BusM 371R Entrepreneur Lecture Series (meets Core II requirement; does not count as upper-division credit)
  • BusM 372 Basic Entrepreneurship Skills: How To Start Up and Grow A Business (Fall and Winter; will not meet Marriott School upper-division credit requirement)
