Spouses Luncheon

The infamous Spouses Luncheon went on just like any meeting with a group of ladies goes on. Laughing, eating, talking and of course bragging were all part of the agenda. As the spouses entered 710 of the Tanner Building the tables were set up nicely and the prettiest chef salad laid at each spot on the table. Some of the spouses sat down and began to eat but others needed to get some chit-chatting in about their children and especially their grand-children. As talking and laughing went on, very little eating was taking place, so Charlene Simcox took the initiative and began the meeting. She told each spouse to stand up and state her name and a little bit about her. Of course, everyone had to talk about their grandchildren, but we learned where everyone was from also. After it had seemed that everyone knew at least the names of the others Charlene began her activity she had planned for this special luncheon event. She had handed out slips of paper to each of the spouses to fill out at the beginning of the luncheon. For each lady, the slip of paper expressed something they wish they had done or something they wish they could do before they died. As she collected the last few, she began to read off the event expressed on the slips, and the other spouses were suppose to guess who’s dream this was. Many ideas flowed, such as writing books or going on trips to exotic places, but one stood out in particular and soon had the whole room agreeing on itÂ….A ride in a hot-air balloon. With quite a bit of laughter and excitement, the spouses decided that this would be their next spouse activity, a hot air balloon extravaganza. Letters were written to spouses who were serving missions, as everyone finished their salads. The spouses realized there was much to be grateful for as we were asked to exit the room, for there was a class that needed to start soon. And we were on our way to the Student Entrepreneur of the Year Competition.
