How to Find Tech Students at BYU for Your Projects

Finding a “techie” (web or mobile developer, graphic designer, coder, etc.) for your project – which may be anything from a CTO/partner for your new business venture to a person to help with a charity website – is challenging.  Here are some tips for finding someone in the BYU community:
  1. Check out http://island.byu.edu, an active discussion group where many Information Systems and other tech-savvy students at BYU (including many alumni) hang out to learn from one another.  A post to the “Jobs” and “Entrepreneurship” groups will get your proposition in front of the majority of the people that traffic the site.  If individuals aren’t looking, they might have a friend they can recommend, or perhaps they can give feedback on a better place to go to find the kind of talent you’re looking for.
  2. Try the computer science department’s Job Board at http://cs.byu.edu/jobs as well.  You can use this to target Computer Science (CS) students.
  3. Try http://ebusiness.byu.edu – there is a link “Web Developers 2 Go” in the bottom left corner of this page.  This may be somewhat out-of-date, but you may find some great talent in this searchable database of web development talent.
  4. Network. Network. Network. and attend or consider joining the following clubs/groups:
    1. ASM (Association for Systems Management) http://asm.byu.edu
    2. CEO (Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization)http://ceo.byu.edu
