About the GFA

GFA Mission

The mission of the Graduate Finance Association is to prepare BYU students for careers in finance by providing them with mentoring, education, and training designed to prepare them for internships and full-time roles in investment banking, sales and trading, corporate finance, asset management, and equity research.

Mentoring

Mentoring serves to expose students to myriad finance opportunities, to explain the subtleties of specific job functions, and to guide students as they embark on a targeted job search. Second-year mentors provide unique career perspectives, facilitate networking, and foster candid discussions about potential internship and career decisions. Alumni finance mentors act as experienced advisors, offering students an equally candid long-term perspective about career fit, planning, and progression.

Education

The role of the GFA in the educational process is to supplement in-class finance education with real-world perspectives on topical financial issues. Guest speakers from the financial world, sponsored by the GFA, share invaluable industry perspectives with the membership. Learning from, and interacting with, these speakers provides excellent opportunities for the GFA membership to integrate real-world financial lessons into their BYU education.

Training

The Graduate Finance Association sponsors reputed external trainers to teach students financial valuation and modeling techniques used in practice by financial services firms on Wall Street. These skills prove critical for all students seeking careers in which finance plays a central role.
