Diversity Initiative

Purposes and Goals:


The Marriott School's Diversity Initiative has two purposes:
  1. To recruit more underrepresented students and faculty into the Marriott School.

  2. To provide all students with both cultural awareness and sensitivity to diversity issues in order to increase their effectiveness in today's diverse workforce.
Overarching Goal: Improve the internal climate of the Marriott School to be more supportive to underrepresented and international students and faculty, to provide non-minority students both cultural awareness and sensitivity to diversity issues to increase their effectiveness in today's diverse workforce, and to recruit a more diverse student body and faculty.

Strategies:

  • Faculty Hiring - Identify and track underrepresented PhD candidates for each program and help to provide mentoring and resource support for them to return to teach at the Marriott School.

  • Student Recruiting - Develop a viable pipeline of underrepresented students for each of the graduate programs and make available Extended Reach Scholarships to support these students.

  • Internal Climate - Establish and communicate a "Diversity Vision/Philosophy" for the school that would be operationalized through the student experience in each respective program and across the curriculum.
