BYU MBA Academy

The MBA Academy is a structured program designed to assist prospective graduate students with the MBA application process, GMAT preparation, and the post undergraduate job search. Its purpose is to attract talented college juniors and seniors who can offer a diverse perspective to the Marriott School MBA program. Some post baccalaureate applicants will also be considered.

Benefits to Participants

MBA Academy participants will attend a 2 ½ day retreat, monthly presentations, a GMAT class, and social events so that they can:

  • Learn the basics of the MBA application process
  • Prepare for and take the GMAT
  • Develop a professional résumé
  • Acquire interviewing skills
  • Build a strong network with sponsoring companies who have an interest in bringing a diverse perspective to their organization
  • Successfully obtain full-time, post undergraduate employment
  • Develop friendships that will last a lifetime

Selection Criteria

All students who apply for the MBA Academy will be given consideration; those who best demonstrate the following will be selected:

  • A devotion to BYU’s mission
  • Excellent grades (at least a 3.0 and above)
  • Strong verbal and analytical skills
  • Involvement in extra curricular activities
  • Potential for job placement (communication skills, past work experience)
  • Determination and an ability to bring a unique perspective to our program. Applicants can demonstrate these strengths by submitting two essays. 

Cost

The cost for participants admitted into the MBA Academy is approximately US$300. This cost covers GMAT preparation and materials, food at events, and the food and lodging at the 2 ½ day retreat in Utah. It does not include airfare and additional lodging.

To apply to the MBA Academy, please email the following to MBAacademy@byu.edu before 17 March 2009:

  • Completed MBA Academy Application
  • Your résumé
  • Transcripts (Not necessary for students at the BYU Provo Campus). Please see the application for the mailing address.
  • Two essays addressing the following:
    1. Why are you interested in the MBA Academy? What are your future career and/or educational goals? How will participating in the MBA Academy help you obtain them? 
    2. Please read the following statement and answer the question: What makes you diverse?

At the Marriott School we seek a variety of individuals with a common purpose.”

Please write your essays in Microsoft Word and attach them to the email. Please keep each essay under two pages (double or single spaced) while being as specific as possible.
