Josh Probert Lecture

Description:

A native of Scipio, Utah, Josh is currently a third-year PhD student in the history of American civilization at the University of Delaware in cooperation with the Winterthur Museum. His coursework included American history, material culture, art history, and museology. His training at Winterthur included working in the curatorial and registration departments. Beginning in January, he will begin work on a cataloguing project for the Delaware Museum of Art.

In 2005 Josh graduated with a master’s degree from Yale University in the Program in Religion and the Arts. At Yale, he was awarded the Dominque de Menil Scholar in Religion and the Arts and was the student curator of the art gallery of the Yale Divinity School.

Josh graduated from the Romney Institute in 2003. During the program he worked as a T.A. for Dr. Baker’s management communication classes, did an internship at the BYU Museum of Art, wrote a grant application for the museum, and worked as a research assistant on the Joseph Smith Papers Project.

Before beginning his PhD, Josh worked as an editor for BYU Studies for two years and was an adjunct instructor for the Marriott School in management communications. He has authored several articles in Mormon history and Mormon studies and presented papers at the National Art Education Conference, the Mormon History Association Conference, and the Art, Belief, and Meaning Symposium at the BYU Museum of Art.
