Overview

The Institute of Financial Services effectively builds upon the high intelligence, strong work ethic, and well-developed integrity of our students and prepares them for significant careers in the financial services industry. The Institute helps address real and important business issues through research and consulting by both faculty and students.

This is accomplished by requiring a rigorous foundation curriculum for all Marriott School students. As an introduction to the Institute, students participate in an executive lecture series taught by industry professionals which gives an overview of financial services topics. As students progress through the Financial Services emphasis, faculty and industry professionals teach challenging financial services core focused in the following areas:
  • Insurance and Financial Planning
  • Banking
  • Real Estate
  • Risk Management
  • Investment Banking and Investment Management

Students may currently choose to study real estate, insurance and financial planning, or investment management. Through cooperation with industry professionals, faculty, clubs, and associations, the Institute strives to prepare students to earn their professional certificates.

Under the direction of the Dean, the Institute is managed by an executive director (a retired financial services executive), a faculty and industry co-chairman, finance faculty, and an industry advisory board composed of executives from partner firms who provide input on curriculum and development of the Institute.

More than 100 BYU students per year enter careers in financial services. About half of those students come from the Marriott School.
