Case Preparation

Cases will be sent to participating teams several weeks in advance of the competition date, in a sealed envelope. By submitting an application for registration for this competition, all persons of the team, and anyone affiliated with the University represented by said team agrees to a strict code of honor and promises not to open the case prior to the established date. Participants will have two weeks to prepare for the preliminary presentations to be given on 9 November. Team members may use reference sources in the public domain, such as books, the University business library, the Internet, etc. Please pay attention to copyright issues.

All teams must bring their own laptop computers, USB flash drive and PowerPoint software required for each computer.

Case Presentations

Time

he case will be kept confidential until the appointed time of distribution. All teams will prepare their presentations in response to the case scenario at their convenience and at a location of their choosing. All preparations will be done prior to attending the competition. All presentations will be given in Portuguese. In the first round, members of each team will have thirty-five minutes to present their analysis before the panel of judges, and fifteen minutes will be allocated for questions. In the final round, each team will have fifteen minutes to present their analysis before the panel of judges, and five minutes will be allocated for questions. Five minutes of setup before the presentation and five minutes of take down will be scheduled into each time slot.

Presentation Guidelines

Presentations should consist of a PowerPoint presentation only (no props allowed). No audio will be allowed in the PowerPoint presentation. If a team is unable to setup their PowerPoint presentation within the five minutes, teams must use slide copies that they will be responsible for preparing. All members will be encouraged to participate actively during the presentation.

Spectator Information

Only team advisors, BYU employees, official videographers, and special guests may observe the preliminary rounds. Team members will not be allowed to view the presentations of competing teams in the preliminary round. However, all participants and advisors may observe the final round of presentations, including finalists after their own presentation. Photography and video recording by unauthorized persons is strictly prohibited in this competition.

Coaches

Each team will be allowed to have one coach, who may not participate in the preparation or presentation of the case. Coaches may help team members prepare before the distribution of the case. Coaches may be native speakers of the presentation language and may direct team members in this regard. Once the case has been distributed, coaching by faculty members, school staff, or outside experts is prohibited.

Judging

Judges will not and should not know which school the presenting team represents. The team may not infer this information verbally, or through colors or graphics. Teams will use their fictitious name, as assigned to them at the distribution of the cases. After each round of presentations is complete, judges will have thirty minutes to deliberate and come to a decision.

Attire

Formal business attire is appropriate for this competition.

Supplies

The presentation rooms will be technologically equipped, to facilitate PowerPoint presentations, but it is the responsibility of each team to bring all necessary supplies and equipment.

Copying and Printing (more information)

It is recommended that all necessary copying and printing be done prior to arrival at Brigham Young University. However, printing is available on campus for $0.05 per page.
