Eccles Scholars Awards
The objective of the Eccles Scholars Awards program is to provide scholarships and additional financial support to MBA students who have a strong interest in and commitment to international business.
All 1st-year MBA students enrolled in the Global Management Certificate program are eligible to apply for the Eccles Scholars Awards. Every year up to 10 students will be selected to receive the award.
The factors that the committee will consider during the selection process are:
- Academic standing in the MBA program – this includes incoming GPA, GMAT score, and GPA in the first semester of the MBA program.
- Prior international experience, including work experience.
- Second language fluency.
- Registration for the Global Management Certificate in the MBA program, which is the highest level of international business academic qualification for our students.
- Desire to pursue a career in business with a focus in international business.
Application Process
Students are requested to submit an application to be selected as an Eccles Scholar. The application process involves an application form, a current vita and a letter of intent explaining why they feel they should be considered as Eccles Scholars and how they feel they meet the criteria established for the funding.
The application packet should be submitted to the Kay and Yvonne Whitmore Global Management Center by the deadline listed under Important Dates below. Incomplete applications will not be considered in the selection process. Application material submitted after the deadline will not be considered in the selection process.
Applications will be reviewed by the committee and pre-selected students will be invited for an interview with a panel of international business faculty.
Once the final selection is made, the Eccles Scholars will be announced.
Important Dates
MBA student will receive a flyer in their box during the month of January with details about the application process and deadlines.
Eccles Scholars Award Amount
Students will be awarded up to $10,000 during their two academic years. At the end of the first year, students will receive $4,000 towards tuition and $2,000 towards an international experience. Students who complete their Global Management Certificate at the end of the second year will receive an additional $4,000 towards tuition. If an Eccles Scholar also receives the Hawes Scholarship, he/she will not receive the latter $4,000.

Throughout their lives, George S. Eccles (1902 – 1982) and Dolores Doré Eccles (1902 – 1994) were committed to supporting important community needs in Utah.
