InformationTentative Schedule
Friday, 24 February 2012 Business Plan DevelopmentProjectEach team will receive a Nutraceutical Corporation product to market to the Utah Hispanic community. The product will be the same to all teams. Teams are encouraged to learn about the product and about the target consumer before starting the development of the business plan. As part of the business plan presentation, teams are required to present information on how and where they will reach the consumer. Teams are also required to include the marketing message to be communicated to the target consumer. Each team will be asked to present two recommended marketing tools to be used as part of the business plan, in addition to the PowerPoint presentation. Detailed guidelines for the business plan development will be sent to the coaches of the registered teams after the registration deadline. Each coach should distribute the information to his or her team members and read the guidelines with them, making sure they understand it completely. All teams must read the guidelines carefully and follow them accordingly. Students will have approximately three months to develop the business plan and prepare for the presentations to be given on Friday, 24 February 2012. CoachesStudents, not the coach, must prepare the business plan. The coach can help the team by teaching the students business and marketing principles and well as providing guidelines on how to write a business plan. However, the coach should not give specific suggestions for the development of the business plan. Coaches may be native Spanish speakers and may direct team members in grammar and business terms as needed. All high school teachers acting as coaches (one per team) will receive a $300 stipend, for participation, on the final day of the competition. BUSINESS PLAN PRESENTATIONTimeThe competition material will be kept confidential until the appointed time of distribution. Teams should prepare their presentations following the competition material guidelines. All preparations must be done before attending the competition. All presentations must be given in Spanish. In the first round of presentations, members of each team will have ten minutes to present their recommendations before the panel of judges, and five minutes will be allocated for questions. In the final round, each team will have again ten minutes to present their analysis before the panel of judges, and five minutes will be allocated for questions. In both first and final rounds, a timekeeper will notify the team at eight minutes and at nine minutes. The presentation will be interrupted at ten minutes. Five minutes will be scheduled into each time slot for setup and take down. Presentation GuidelinesPresentations should consist of a PowerPoint presentation and no more than two props. No audio will be allowed in the PowerPoint presentation. No items will be allowed to be left with the judges or audience. If a team is unable to setup their PowerPoint presentation within the five minutes, teams must use slide copies that they will be responsible for preparing in advance. All student members of the team must participate actively during the presentation. All teams must bring their presentations on a USB flash drive, with the team name written on it. Only the competition presentation should be in the flash drive. Spectator InformationOnly team advisors, BYU employees, official videographers, and special guests may observe the first round of presentations. Team members will not be allowed to view the presentations of competing teams in the first round. However, all participants and advisors may observe the final round of presentations. Photography and video recording by unauthorized persons is strictly prohibited in this competition. CoachesEach team will be allowed to have one coach who must not participate in the preparation or presentation of the case. Coaches will not be allowed to offer suggestions after the first round of presentations JudgingJudges will not and should not know which school the presenting team represents. The team may not infer this information verbally or through colors or graphics. Teams will use their fictitious name, as assigned to them at the day of the competition. After each round of presentations is complete, judges will have thirty minutes to deliberate and come to a decision. All twelve teams will present in the first round of presentations in the morning. Judges will select six teams to present in the final round of presentations in the afternoon. Judges will then select first, second, and third teams to be announced in the award ceremony in the evening. Cash prizes in the amount of $600, $300, and $100 per team will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively. Honor CodeDuring the one-day event at the Marriott School of Management, teams are required to live the honor code. By submitting an application for registration for this competition, all persons of the team agree to a strict code of honor. AttireBusiness attire is appropriate for this competition. No jeans. SuppliesThe presentation rooms will be technologically equipped to facilitate PowerPoint presentations, but it is the responsibility of each team to bring all other necessary supplies and equipment. Copying and PrintingIt is recommended that all necessary copying and printing be done before arrival at Brigham Young University. However, printing is available on campus for $0.05 per page. |
