Medications in the United States, just like in all other countries, are different and can be confusing if you have not had experience with them before. If you have specific medications that you need or brands you prefer please bring them from home.

Many people get allergies when they come to Utah because of the pollen and other natural elements in the air. Allergies can be bothersome because they often consist of a runny nose, sneezing, and watery/itching eyes. Benadryl, Zyrtec-D, and Allegra are some of the popular allergy medications that treat these symptoms. Pepto-Bismol provides fast relief for upset stomach and other symptoms including nausea, heartburn, diarrhea and indigestion. For headaches and mild to moderate pain, Advil and Motrin are used often.

Unlike some humid areas of the world, Utah is a very dry state (it is considered a desert) and has very dry air quality. This is an adjustment to many who come to live in Utah. Students in previous exchanges have expressed concern about their dry skin and lips. This is easily fixed if you know how to use a few simple tools while in Utah. Lip balm and lotion are used to help skin stay moisturized. They can be found at any grocery store and most convenience stores. They come in many brands, but the most popular form of lip balm is Chapstick, and the most popular lotions bought at grocery stores are Jergens and Nivea. Applying lip balm and lotion to your lips and skin will keep you comfortable in the dry Utah weather.
