International Applicants
ADVISORY TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
A high percentage of
international students who apply for admission to graduate study at BYU are
disqualified for one or more of the following reasons:
-Insufficient
financial support
-Insufficient academic
preparation
-Degree unequal to a
U.S. bachelor's degree
-Unofficial GMAT or
TOEFL results
-Unpaid application fee
At this
time please assess your situation and determine whether you are prepared to
initiate the rather lengthy and costly application process. You must be able to
answer “YES” to the following questions to be considered eligible for admission
to the MBA Program. You may also refer to the BYU Graduate Studies web site
for additional information for
International Graduate Applicants to BYU.
1. Have you earned the
prerequisite degree required for graduate study (at least the equivalent of a
baccalaureate degree from an accredited U.S. college)? Applicants with a
3-year degree may not qualify for consideration (applicants from India must
have one of the following to qualify: Master of Arts, Commerce, or Education;
Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology,
Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Medicine, or Bachelor of Surgery). If you
have any questions about your eligibility for admission based on your
undergraduate degree, please contact the BYU Office of Graduate Studies at
gradstudies@byu.edu for clarification.
2. Is the quality of your
academic performance sufficient to merit consideration (at least the
equivalent of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale)?
3. Can you provide official
documentation to verify your academic preparation and performance (transcripts
and diplomas)?
4. Is your academic
preparation sufficient and appropriate for acceptance to the MBA Program?
Please answer the
following questions if your native language is not English. If your native
language is English or you have received your degree from a U.S. institution,
you do not have to submit TOEFL scores.
5. Did you (or are you
planning to) take the TOEFL exam after August 2003? (TOEFL scores must be less
than two years old at the time of entrance in the MBA Program in August
2005. If your TOEFL was not taken after August 2003 it will be expired and
you’ll need to take it again in order to have the score considered for Fall 2005
entrance in the MBA Program.)
6. Is your TOEFL score 240
or above on the computer adaptive test, or 590 or above on the paper-based
test? Students with a TOEFL score below 240/590 will not be considered for
admission to the MBA Program.
HONOR CODE AND DRESS AND
GROOMING STANDARDS
Brigham Young University is
sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All students who
attend BYU are required to adhere to church standards of personal conduct.
These standards include honesty, strict personal chastity, modesty, and total
abstinence from alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco, and drugs or other harmful
substances. Please see the Honor Code web site
http://www.byu.edu/honorcode/ for details.
7. Do you agree to follow
BYU standards of personal conduct?
FINANCIAL DOCUMENTATION
Although you may be
academically qualified for admission, Brigham Young University cannot grant
official acceptance to you until you have documented that you are prepared to
assume responsibility for all your expenses (and those of your dependants)
during the total length of time necessary to pursue a degree in the United
States. Documentation is required at the time you submit your application, and
further documentation may be required at the time you are admitted for graduate
study. You will be required to submit evidence of your financial ability in one
or more of the following ways:
A.
Proof of necessary cash (bank statements, tax returns).
B.
A contract of support from a sponsor, in the home country or the U.S., who will
pay educational expenses.
C.
Proof of a government loan.
D.
Proof of a scholarship or financial assistance. No applicant can be considered
or admitted without documentation. More detailed instructions are included in
the official application.
8. Will you submit the
required $50 fee, in U.S. dollars, with the application? (BYU does not waive or
defer the application fee, and will not process an application submitted without
the fee.)
9. Can you document that you
(personally or with the help of others) can assume the responsibility for all
your expenses while in the U.S.? (You may be hoping to receive financial aid to
pay for some of your expenses for the MBA Program. Please be aware that
although some financial aid is available through academic departments, these
funds are extremely limited.)
FINANCIAL AID &
SCHOLARSHIPS
All students admitted to the
MBA Program are automatically considered for an MBA Program scholarship.
Scholarships are awarded to exceptionally qualified international students,
and are based on academic work, GMAT score, and work experience. Please be
aware that MBA Program scholarship awards are given after admission for
the entire MBA class has been confirmed. Therefore, you must be prepared to
assume responsibility for your finances while in the
U.S. without this potential scholarship
award.
International Applicants
In line with the global emphasis of the Marriott School, the MBA
program strongly encourages international students interested in
an outstanding graduate business program to apply. The Marriott School has a special
scholarship program for married international LDS graduate students called the Cardon
International Scholarship (CIS). Details about eligibility for
this scholarship are available at http://marriottschool.byu.edu/cis.
