Checklist

  1. Pay your deposit to enroll in the program. Instructions on how to pay your deposit should have been sent to you by Graduate Studies. If you cannot locate these instructions, please email gradstudies@byu.edu. Payment of this deposit is required by all incoming students, even those who have scholarship funds awarded to them. If a student has been awarded a full-tuition scholarship, the amount of the paid deposit will be returned to them by the Financial Aid office a few weeks after school starts.
  2. Look at all dates and deadlines for admitted students.
  3. Complete the required Harvard online prerequisite coursework in accounting and statistics by 1 July. Information on how to register for these courses will be sent to you in your admission letter and can also be found on the Proficiency Exam page.
  4. If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and you choose to apply for Federal Aid, make sure to complete an online FAFSA once your taxes are complete (i.e. you would use your 2010 taxes to apply for the 2011 – 2012 school year). Register for a pin to expedite the process. International students do not qualify for federal student aid, but can check out Marriott School loans.
  5. Set up a BYU login ID and password. To do this, go to the Graduate Studies web site. Click on the application status link and then click create Net ID.
  6. Create an email alias.
  7. Complete an incoming student survey.
  8. Register for a parking pass.
  9. Update any address, phone, or email changes by logging into route Y.
  10. Read the policies and procedures manual.
  11. Read, sign, and mail all forms to the MBA office by August 5th. (International orientation contract required for international students only.)
  12. After receiving a registration email from the MBA program, complete your fall registration. You can disregard all general registration material from the university. Registration for classes will not be available until after you receive the email from Debbie Ruse. You should receive the registration email in July. If you do not receive the email, please notify Debbie Ruse at debbie_ruse@byu.edu.
  13. Review the orientation schedule and make plans to be near Provo during the orientation. Your attendance is required for the entire orientation. International students must attend both the international student orientation and the incoming full-time student orientation.
  14. Check out BYU discounts on software, computers, and virus protection for students.
  15. Purchase and set up a laptop.
  16. Order textbooks.
  17. Ensure you have completed all of the necessary paperwork for student and/or family health insurance.
  18. Locate housing. You can find resources for housing near campus at http://housing.byu.edu/. Craigslist is another good resource to find housing. There are several neighborhoods where single graduate students live. Some of the popular units are: Pioneer I and II, Canyon Meadows, Deerhaven, Alpine Brook, and homes on Slate Canyon
  19. Pay tuition by the tuition deadline for the fall.
