DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS
CLAS Ropes Course:
CLAS Ropes Course (Challenging Leadership Adventure Systems, Inc.) is a unique
recreational facility nestled in a park like setting along the Provo River. It
is a combined series of mentally and physically challenging initiatives, simulation
games, problem-solving activities, and obstacle course set ups designed to assist
children toward greater success and effectiveness through the internalization
of personal and relationship awareness skills/concepts, i.e. self worth and self
confidence, communication, trust, problem solving, decision making, leadership,
conflict resolution, group cooperation, valuing diversity, goal setting, and teamwork.

Photography at Cascade Springs:
More than 600 species of fishes, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and birds call
Utah home, some of which will be seen at Cascade Springs. The trail, accessible
from the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway, features brooks, aquatic plants, waterfalls,
and tree-lined walkways along natural springs. The children will be given a beginning
photography lesson to learn the techniques of beautiful photography. Each child
will be given a disposable camera and the chance to use those techniques at Cascade
Springs and Sundance. These photos will be displayed at the end of the conference
for all the parents to see. www.utahoutdooractivities.com/cascadesprings.html
Sundance
Live Bird Demonstration with Utah Wildfire Rehabilitation:
A live owl and a Swainson's Hawk will visit the Nature Center to allow children
to see these magnificent birds up close and ask questions of wildfire rehabilitators.

Dissect Owl Pellets:
Children will have the opportunity to dissect an owl pellet to discover why owls
regurgitate these pellets and what sorts of animals these specialized predators
hunt. Owl pellets are specially ordered and are sanitized for safe handling.
Scenic Lift Ride and Bird of Prey Watch:
We'll ride Ray's Lift in search of the birds of prey found at Sundance, like Redtail
Hawks, Turkey Vultures, Golden Eagles, and the elusive Northern Goshawk. Kids
can search for these raptors in the sky or get a "birds eye view" to find out
what kinds of small animals the birds might find while soaring. If time permits,
we'll stop at the summit for a view before we head back down.
Eyring Science Center and Astronomy Show:
Though they may already know a thing or two about chaos, children can explore
dozens of scientific principles-including chaos theory-through displays and interactive
demonstrations in the Eyring Science Center lobby. Children will also enjoy a
tour of the heavens in the planetarium. astronomy.byu.edu/astrosoc/
Physics Demonstration:
Have you ever wondered how static electricity work, or why the primary colors
are so neat? Have you ever thought about what makes a motor work or why air gets
smaller when it is cold? Some of these questions may be answered in an exciting
and educational physics demonstration where we will see some eye-popping physics
tricks such as self-inflating balloons, floating balls, levitating fur, and a
ping pong ball cannon.
Seven Peaks:
Seven Peaks is Utah's largest water park. The highest tower in Utah featuring
nine water slides and the largest wave pool in Utah will provide thrills and chills
to last a long time. www.sevenpeaks.com/
