Skills-Based Learning

A unique feature of the BYU MPA program is its placement in the highly-ranked BYU Marriott School of Business. The business school environment allows our students resources and opportunities to develop practical management skills that they can apply immediately to their internships and jobs. Students can take elective courses from the business disciplines, collaborate with students from other management programs, and gain a deeper perspective on how the public and private sectors relate.

Skill development is a priority for the MPA program. Courses provide students with analytic techniques, quantitative skills, and leadership abilities. Students work with community partners to apply the skills they’re learning in real-life situations. The core curriculum is designed to strengthen management skills in the following course areas:

  • accounting
  • communications
  • organizational behavior
  • statistics
  • economics
  • financial management
  • human resources
  • ethics
  • quantitative decision analysis
  • legal issues
  • program evaluation
