Tuition and Financial Aid

Information about current tuition and fees is available at this link: http://home.byu.edu/webapp/finserve/content/page/Tuition.html

Because a significant portion of the university's operating costs are paid from the tithes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, students who are tithe-paying members of The Church have already contributed to the operations of the university. Non-LDS students, because they will not have made this contribution, are charged higher tuition.

Cardon International Student (CIS) Scholarships

Applicants who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints living outside the United States and Canada, married, with a current temple recommend are encouraged to learn about the CIS scholarship opportunity. See this link for information: http://marriottschool.byu.edu/mba/cis/cis.cfm

First-Year Scholarships

All admitted 1st year students are invited to apply for RIPM scholarships. The department offers several scholarships for first year students: approximately six academic full-tuition, ten academic half-tuition, twelve academic quarter-tuition, three diversity, four international, and two need-based scholarships.

Second-Year Scholarships and Assistantships

Second year MPA students are invited to apply for both Romney Institute and Marriott School scholarships and department assistantships. Scholarship opportunities are numerous and based on differing criteria including previous academic performance, current academic performance, commitment to service, area of interest, and ethnicity. Assistantships include administrative, teaching and research opportunities. Information and applications for Romney Institute scholarships and assistantships are emailed to the current first year students each spring.

Most second-year MPA students receive some type of Romney Institute or Marriott School scholarship or assistantship. These scholarships are mostly private and are available by application. Many Romney Institute scholarships are awarded to students who excel and show interest in specific professional fields.

Department scholarships include:

  • Doyle W. Buckwalter Outstanding Internship Award
  • Leroy and Agda Harlow Public Administration Scholarship

Loans

Both first- and second-year MPA students may apply for loans from the Marriott School Loan Fund. These loans are handled on an individual basis, dependent on financial need and standing within the participating programs. BYU short-term loans are available for up to the cost of tuition only. Federal Stafford loans are subsidized by the U.S. government and are available only to U.S. citizens. More information on and applications for these loans are available from the BYU Financial Aid Office in A-41 ASB, (801) 378-4104, financialaid@byu.edu, http://financialaid.byu.edu/.
