Marriott School Professor Teppo Felin Recognized for Online Influence

PROVO, Utah – Jun 05, 2013 – Through tweets, hashtags and blogs, students in Marriott School professor Teppo Felin’s classes are encouraged to use technology to interact with their professor and supplement their classroom learning. This innovative use of technology is one of the reasons Felin ranks as one of the most web-savvy professors and influential Twitter users in the country.

“With so much online, now students are spending more and more time on the Internet,” Felin says of the importance of using technology in the classroom. “I have tried to be familiar with new technologies and use them to help teach my students.”

Felin manages two blogs — strategyprof.net and orgtheory.net — that he uses to interact with the academic and business community. A number of guest bloggers also share industry insights on Felin’s blog. This web presence, combined with his social media interaction, resulted in the recent accolades.

His Twitter ranking by the think tank LDRLB is the result of Felin’s Klout Score — an online service that digs deeply into user’s social media interaction to measure their influence.

His standing as the nineteenth most web-savvy professor was determined by a rigorous research process completed by Best Online Universities. The group nominated and ranked professors based on their social media activity, ownership or contributions to websites and their recognition of the importance of new media.

“Teppo Felin is one of the most creative young faculty I have worked with,” says Gary Cornia, dean of the Marriott School of Management. “He has inventive ideas and a unique ability to share those ideas in ways that are truly influencing organizations around the world.”
