Marriott School Names Robert J. Parsons as Chair of Public Management

The Marriott School at Brigham Young University has announced the appointment of Robert J. Parsons as chair of the Romney Institute of Public Management. He will replace Larry C. Walters, who served as chair of the department for the past four years.

Marriott School Launches New Web Site

After more than 750 hours of research, design and programming, the Marriott School of Management launched a new web site Monday created and built by students in the School of Accountancy and Information Systems. “The site is innovative and on the leading edge of what’s current in web design,” said Owen Cherrington, director of the Master of Information Systems Management (MISM) program for the Marriott School.

BYU Undergraduate Business Program Advances to 32nd

The Marriott School at Brigham Young University was ranked 32nd for best undergraduate business programs in this year's U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges issue. The undergraduate accounting and general management programs were also listed among the nation's best. "We're pleased with the national recognition the Marriott School has received, especially our top undergraduate accounting and management programs," said Ned Hill, dean of the Marriott School.

Marriott School Professors Receive One of Four National Research

Two professors at Brigham Young University's Marriott School were recently awarded a $20,000 grant by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The grant will be used by Steven Glover and Douglas Prawitt, assistant professors of accounting at the Marriott School, to explore the obligations auditors have to ensure that financial statements are not fraudulent. Glover and Prawitt will conduct their research with Joseph J. Schultz of Arizona State University and Mark Zimbelman of the University of Oklahoma. Zimbelman will join the Marriott School faculty this summer as an assistant professor of accounting.

SLOC President to Speak at BYU Marriott School Convocation

W. Mitt Romney, president and chief executive officer of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games (SLOC), will deliver the convocation address for Brigham Young University’s Marriott School April 23. The convocation will begin at 8 a.m. in the Marriott Center. Speaking on “The Business of Integrity,” Romney will address approximately 1,000 business school graduates and their guests.

Marriott School Names 1999 Entrepreneur of the Year

The Center for Entrepreneurship at Brigham Young University’s Marriott School has named William H. Child as its 1999 Administrator of the Year. Child has been the chief executive officer of R.C. Willey Home Furnishings for the past 45 years. In that time, the company has grown from two employees to over 1,700, with 1999 sales projected at $350 million.

The honor, which carries a cash award of $10,000, is the highest distinction given to Marriott School MBA candidates. Ned C. Institute of Public Management Names Administrator of the Year

Brigham Young University’s Romney Institute of Public Management has named Carolyn B. Lewis its 1998 Administrator of the Year, honoring her at a banquet held in Provo on September 17. Lewis, president of the CBL Group, a professional services agency to clients in the securities and health care industries, has also been named chair-elect of the American Hospital Association.

BYU Accounting Program Rises to Second Place National Ranking

The 17th Annual Survey of Accounting Professors has ranked Brigham Young University’s graduate accounting program second in the nation, up one spot from last year’s third place ranking. In the same poll, the University’s undergraduate accounting program maintained its third place ranking for the fourth consecutive year.
