Developing-Economy Entrepreneurial Support Entrepreneurship/International Business - PMGT 690R Section 4
Jim Jenkins, in conjunction with the Economic Self-Reliance Center, is interested in understanding how a for-profit enterprise might support and train entrepreneurs (not microentrepreneurs) in developing countries. The ESR Center recognizes that for-profit, value-building entrepreneurial activities may be a way to (1) increase the wealth of the entrepreneur, (2) raise the self-reliance of individuals who work for these new enterprises, and (3) indirectly increase the general economic wellbeing of the local economy. It also recognizes that that the business environment in many developing countries may be corrupt and hostile, rather than supportive to anyone outside of ruling families and market-dominating minorities. This class will seek to discover: (1) which developing countries offer the best environment for entrepreneurship; ( 2) what is currently being done to support and invest in entrepreneurs in developing countries; and (3) what financial results from such efforts have been.
