Internship Preparation Class – BUSM 490R Section 3
Joan Dixon will be teaching the ESR Internship Preparation Class in a new and improved modular format during Winter Semester. Students will be able to register for 1–3 credits depending on the needs for their particular internship assignment. Registration Forms and Add/Drop Cards will be available in the ESR office beginning January 8, 2007. Partner organizations are welcome to send their staff or volunteers to these workshops as well. Required Preparation Workshops (.5 credit) All interns will be required to take the Basic Orientation Series. The first session will include information about credit options, faculty mentors, funding resources, ESR grant applications, the ISP office, research and project options, training seminar schedule and other things they will need to make decisions about.
- Basic Orientation Workshop – Friday, January 26th 2:00 – 4:00 (an additional date will be scheduled later in the semester if there is a significant number of late scheduling interns.)
- Intercultural Communication (offered through ISP office – 3 sessions, flexible times and dates)
- Predeparture Support & Safety Orientation – Friday, March 30th 2:00 – 4:00
- Training of Trainers Saturday Seminars (1 credit or .25 credit per session): Interns and Partners may take one or all of the Seminars in the series. Each session is 4 hours. The sessions are highly recommended for interns going with ProLiteracy Worldwide, Care For Life, Ascend Alliance and any other organizations that request the training. - Literacy for Social Change Facilitation Practice and How to Make Literacy Lesson Modules: Saturday, January 14th 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
- Introduction to Participatory Learning and Action Techniques: Saturday, February 10th 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
- Evaluation and Assessment Tools: Saturday, March 10th 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
- Working with Local Counterparts: – Saturday, April 7th 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Action Research Design for Internship Projects and Honors Thesis: (.5 credit) Saturday, February 24, 1:00 – 5:00 plus individual work to complete proposal.
