CESR Conversations: LDS Long-term Development Planning

Date/Time: 08-Apr-05, 332 TNRB
Location: Noon
Description: The discussion will be led by EPMA student Tim Gould, who works for LDS Charities, and Professor Michelle Inkley from Penn State University. They are members of the Church's Long-term Development Planning Committee and have been directed to incorporate a more holistic approach into their humanitarian projects, "fitting the real resource the Church has to offer in longer term development (i.e., our people and their skills)." A specific, immediate application of this mandate is what they have been asked to do in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami. In Bishop Richard C. Edgley's words, "Our strategy is to...work out a plan for the long-term--months, maybe years--where we can help rebuild the structures of these [South Asian] devastated countries." Gould and Dr. Inkley have been interviewing colleagues in the international development community to learn best practices. They look forward to sharing their experiences and insights and to learning from our experiences.
