Grant Funding Process
The BYU Economic Self-Reliance Center is providing funds to capable faculty and students for various efforts that carry out the center's mission. Descriptions of these types of efforts are listed at the end of this document under 'Available Grants.'
Funding Criteria
Since the center has limited funds and resources it cannot fund all requests for funds. Grants that meet the following criteria will be given higher funding priority:- Mission Alignment. All grants must align with the self-reliance center's mission. Our mission is to bring practitioners, scholars, and the community together to help families throughout the world become economically self-reliant.
- Research Agenda Support. All grants must be within the scope of the self-reliance center’s research agenda. The research agenda has four facets:
- Building an Economic Self-Reliance (ESR) Model
- Creating more effective ESR Practitioners
- Strengthening ESR Interventions
- Measuring the impact of ESR interventions on Economically Vulnerable Families
- Learning Component. All grants involving students must involve a learning component.
- Output. The center will not fund any grants without stated deliverables.
- Action Research / Applied Research. The center is interested in granting resources for projects that benefit both the practitioner community as well as the academic community. Proposals that highly favor one above the other will be valued less.
- Leveragability. The center has a greater interest in projects that can be leveraged for use with multiple practitioners or academics.
- Existing Relationships. The center is interested in projects that include existing or new ongoing relationships with practitioners and academics.
