Available Grants


All grants are given to faculty and students. Practitioners are not candidates for receiving grants. However, most grants will provide a partnership with one of the practitioners in our ESR Network.

Action Research

Grants within this category demonstrate research with practical application. The results of the research should be used to improve the performance of an organization (as opposed to theoretical research). The research must address one of the four areas of the ESR Research Agenda.

Grantees: Faculty or Faculty & Students
Uses: Research Expenses, Salaries, Faculty Buyout
Target Output: Publication
Minimum Output: Working Paper and Presentation

Conference

Priority for grant funding is given to those presenting papers on a topic related to economic self-reliance at a conference, although some funding may be granted to those attending conferences.

Grantees: Faculty or Faculty & Students
Uses: Conference Attendance Expenses
Target Output: Presentation and Publication of Research
Minimum Output: Conference Attendance & Assessment Report


Course Development

These grant funds are used to improve an existing course or develop a new course (university courses for students, or training courses for practitioners and others in the ESR Network) that teaches any aspect of the economic-self-reliance model or development of ESR practices.

Grantees: Faculty or Departments
Uses: Course Development Expenses, Salaries, Faculty Buyout
Target Output: Curriculum changes, New Courses


Consulting

Consulting grants provide funding to work with a practitioner organization to provide specific consulting assistance dealing with any component of the ESR Model.

Grantees: Faculty or Faculty/Students
Uses: Expenses, Faculty Advisor Fees
Target Output: Completed Consulting Project w/ Practitioner Partner & Assessment Report


Internships

This funding is given to students to augment their pay as interns for an ESR Network partner. Interns are expected to (1) be enrolled in the University, (2) earn credit for their work, and (3) attend a pre- and post-internship course.

Uses: Augmenting Student Internship Pay
Target Output: Mentored Internship w/ Practitioner Partners
Minimum Output: Internships w/ Practitioner Partners & Assessment Report


Service Learning

This funding can be used by faculty and students to cover expenses of providing services to a nonprofit organization through a service-learning course.

Grantees: Faculty/Students
Uses: Expenses
Target Output: Service Learning Experience w/ Practitioner Partner
Minimum Output: Service Learning Experience & Assessment Report
