CESR Intern Preperation Class
Bus M 490R Section 13
Meeting Time: Fridays 2:00 – 3:50
Preparation Class: Second Block of the semester prior to departure
Follow-up and Reporting Class: First Block of the semester following departure
Overview
This class is designed for students who will be serving an internship with a CESR Partner Organization. It is a two part class – a 1 credit preparation class the semester before the internship and a 2 credit post-internship class the semester following the internship.
Preparation Class
The preparation class will include general orientation information about Economic Self Reliance and how to effectively enter and function in a field site (relations with organization, local staff, clarifying your job description, reporting, etc). We will work with each sponsoring organization to facilitate any specialized training their interns might need. Students are expected to earn BYU internship credit while they are in the field. The class will provide assistance to select appropriate courses, connect with faculty advisors, identify readings, and design assignments and research activities that relate closely to their internship assignment.
Follow-up and Reporting Class
The post internship class provides an opportunity for the students to reflect on their experience and examine information they collected through journals and research projects that can be used to improve the organization they worked with or to further understanding of how economic self-reliance is developed and promoted. Students will be assisted to create appropriate reports and research papers, give presentations to their sponsoring organization and other interested groups, and link with other researchers and students to follow up on interesting aspects of their experience. This class will culminate in Presentation Seminar for the sponsoring organizations, faculty, future interns and other interested people.
Students may register for the class by Add/Drop card at the first session.
