The BYU Center for Economic Self-Reliance is teaming up with the Kevin and Debra Rollins Center for eBusiness to co-sponsor the eBusiness Day on Friday, 8 October. The one day conference will focus on applying information technology in efforts that create economic self-reliance. Patrick Byrne, CEO of Overstock.com, will be the keynote speaker.   more

Energy Systems Theory and Local Economy Measure

Donald Adolphson, BYU Professor of Public Management, is trying to approach self-reliance from a broader perspective than traditional economics. In the context of energy systems theory, Adolphson's goal is to create a community that develops economic self-reliance by learning how to account for the intangible things outside the formal economy. His current research involves a detailed study of energy use and resource management in Utah County and seeks to uncover long-term solutions to economic instability.  more

Cause For Hope

Just two years old, Cause for Hope (CFH) is already well on its way to fulfilling its mission of "enabling thousands of people in developing countries to become self-reliant and improve their lives." Legally formed in 2002, CFH now has offices in Honduras and Nicaragua, with plans of opening another Nicaraguan office within the next few months.  more
