Film Fellows

Film Fellows

It is our aim to shift the life course of each fellow towards a life of positive impact within their sphere of influence.  The goal is not to create social entrepreneurs, but rather create opportunities for students to engage in social entrepreneurship in a way that is appropriate and relevant for them.

The Peery Social Entrepreneurship Fellowships are awarded to teams of filmmakers each year to produce a short documentary about a social entrepreneur. Fellows will have the opportunity to not only receive a grant to create a film, but will complete a curriculum on social entrepreneurship, interact with visiting filmmakers, and have the chance to showcase their films on and off campus. Most importantly, the films will be used by the social entrepreneurs to build engagement with their organizations. The goal of the program is to create opportunities for college students to apply skills developed in their fields of study towards having a social impact.

2010 Film Fellows

In 2010, seven exceptional students were sponsored as the first Peery Film Fellows by the Peery Social Entrepreneurship Grant Program. Equipped with resources and training, these film fellows embarked on a summer adventure to create documentaries about social change.  The students traveled all over the world to work with leading social entrepreneurs in Africa, India, South America, and the United States. The final products were debuted at the 2010 Peery Social Entrepreneruship Film Festival.

The 2010 Film Fellows created films for the following organizations:

Global Citizen Year (Kody Threlfall and Casey): See the Film
Sonidos de la Tierra
(Jenica and Emma Hoskisson) : See the Film
Samasource
(Dusty Hulet and Becca Summers): See the Film
