Competitions

At the Ballard Center, we are passionate about giving students the opportunity to cultivate and apply the skills they learn in their classes. One way that we accomplish this goal, is by providing annual competitions where students can test their ideas in an applied learning environment.

Social Venture Competition:

Founded in 2004, the Social Venture Competition (SVC) creates an atmosphere of innovation where students can be social entrepreneurs. Each year, creative student teams develop plans for their own social venture idea. These ideas are presented to a series of judges, and the top three teams receive cash prizes with which they can launch their ventures. The teams are mentored throughout the projects by knowledgeable Ballard Center staff. Past competition winners include Tilapiana, 2ft. Prosthetics, The Tipping Bucket, Students for Self-Sustainable Schools and Motu Biofuels. Contest rules and deadlines can be found at socialventure.byu.edu.
