Mission Statement
The Office of Service-Learning and Diversity will support the Educational, Research, and Outreach missions of BYU's Marriott School indicated below:
- Education: To attract, develop, and place men and women of faith, character, and professional ability who will become outstanding leaders capable of dealing with change in a global environment.
- Research: To advance knowledge using strong conceptual foundations to identify and solve management problems—focusing on global, technological, and entrepreneurial drivers.
- Outreach: To extend the blessings of management education to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worldwide.
In part, this will be accomplished by promoting a broad range of service-learning activities and attracting, developing, and placing men and women from diverse cultures and ethnic origins. In addition, the Service-Learning and Diversity Office will:
- Help students learn to apply their business and leadership skills through assisting communities, including the Church, that are increasingly diverse; and
- Provide students with opportunities to practice business problem-solving and needs assessment as they partner with those community-based organizations that provide services to individuals and groups from different cultures and across a broad economic spectrum.
- Empowering students who respect difference and understand the nexus of economic and social well-being, to become civic-minded and engaged in their communities.
