American Vocational Schools’ Best Practices Study
The objective of this project was to collect, analyze and
share best-practice information with schools that specialize in vocation and
professional training.The specific
target group focused on programs that are not funded by the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints and which do not depend on Perpetual Education
Funds loans for their student population.
The study measured the success of the vocational training
schools with their ability to:
- Compensate
their teachers with a salary and benefits packet
- Offer
services and infrastructure that will help students be up to date with
technology
- Organically
develop the program of study with input from local industry
- Focus
on effective placement techniques
- Use
publicity and recruitment to increase reputation and future viability
These factors were identified through the analysis of a
survey conducted throughout Mexico,
Peru, Guatemala,
and Chile. The survey was distributed to the best
professional institutes in the aforementioned countries.
Other important factors surveyed worth
mentioning are administrative responsibilities such as budgeting and
financial aid, and legal recognition in order to assess the necessary steps
that a future entrepreneur should take to establish a school.
