Pete Suazo Business Center Project
“The Utah unemployment rate among minorities and Hispanics
is on the rise and minority populations continue to grow. It’s important
to do all we can to support a thriving business atmosphere within all
segments of our society and the Pete Suazo Business Center is a logical
place to start.” --US Senator Robert Bennett
Background: The Pete Suazo Business Center is a Hispanic business
resource center named after the late Pete Suazo,
Utah’s first Latino senator. The center was established to help strengthen and develop Hispanic
businesses with the goal of raising the standard of living and enhancing
the quality of life for Hispanics living in Utah. Services will include business counseling,
training and mentoring to start-up companies. The center will also provide market research and other resources
to the business community it serves.
Marriott School students are
currently working to help the Center create a business plan, web page and
brochure. Business students who are
interested in getting involved in this project should contact Louise Illes, louise_illes@byu.edu. Interest in Hispanic community issues and
fluency in Spanish are desirable.
