Richard Dalebout retired in April after 29 years of dedicated service at BYU.

Dalebout was born in Seattle, Washington, and grew up in Utah. After earning his bachelor's degree in political science and history at BYU, he graduated from law school at the University of Utah. He practiced law for several years, in such positions as Provo City prosecuter, deputy Utah County attorney, assistant to the Provo City attorney, and counsel for the municipal council.

In 1980, Dalebout became a professor of business law in the School of Accountancy at BYU. He served as associate director of the SOA from 2003-2008, where he was responsible for admissions, scholarships, and other student issues. During his time at BYU, Dalebout spent two semesters in London, serving once as associate director and once as director of the study abroad program. Dalebout also enjoyed the opportunity to teach some religion classes at BYU.

About his time at BYU, Dalebout says, "I enjoyed associating with a lot of good people--faculty and students--they're an unusual group."

The Dalebouts have five children and twelve grandchildren. They previously served a Church Educational System mission in Hawaii and look forward to the opportunity to serve another mission after the first of the year.
