Two SOA students and an SOA professor were honored with the Merrill J. Bateman Outstanding Student/Faculty Award in a ceremony held 2 April, with former Marriott School dean Merrill J. Bateman as the guest speaker.

The Bateman Awards are the only school-wide award selected entirely by students. Each year, the award is given to one undergraduate student, one graduate student and one faculty member for their support of the Marriott School, service to the community, professional development activities, and participation in networking. The 2009 award recipients were undergraduate student Jarem Hallows, graduate student Annie Iden, and Professor Earl Kay Stice.

Jarem Hallows with his wife and daughter.
Jarem Hallows, from St. George, Utah, graduated in April with his bachelor's degree in accounting. Jarem served as the Director of Social Life for the Marriott Undergraduate Student Associate and volunteered for BYU's VITA program. He and his wife will be moving to Dallas, Texas, where he has accepted a position as an associate consultant with Bain & Company.

Annie Iden receives her award from President Bateman.
Annie Iden, from Riverton, Wyoming, graduated in April with her MAcc (professional stem). Annie served as president of Beta Alpha Psi. She has been instrumental in growing the membership of BAP and implementing and strengthening programs within the club. Annie is also a recipient of the Global Management Certificate. This September, Annie will start her career with Deloitte in its London offices.

Professor Kay Stice has been teaching at BYU since 1998. He is a favorite among students, interacting with many current and potential Marriott School students as professor and coordinator of the introductory accounting classes. He has been honored several times for his excellence in teaching, both at BYU and at other universities.

Congratulations to these outstanding award recipients!
