A Letter from W. Steve Albrecht Reporting on the Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan

On 11 March 2011 Japan was hit by the largest known earthquake in the country's history. At the time, W. Steve Albrecht, currently on leave from his faculty position in the SOA, was serving as president of the Japan, Tokyo Mission. The following is Albrecht's experience of the earthquake and the events that followed.

Norm Nemrow Retires

Few faculty members at BYU have had as broad an impact on the student body during the past twenty years as Professor Norm Nemrow. As the primary professor of introductory accounting, Nemrow taught more than 30,000 students during his tenure at BYU. He was very popular among students, who were sometimes seen around campus wearing t-shirts that said, "Norm Rocks!" While many students may remember Nemrow for his CDs that help teach basic accounting principles, Nemrow tried to pass on a more important message to students: "You have a sacred stewardship as beneficiaries of a BYU education. You need to go out and be outstanding and represent the Lord and the church." He hopes students understand the sacrifice it takes for them to be at BYU.
