Learning and Service

President Obama recently signed the Serve America Act, hailed as landmark national-service legislation. This act authorizes funding to jump-start a range of programs to help schools, health care, and the environment. The idea of volunteer service is being discussed in the media as one way to address the needs of both individuals and society.

Farewell and Welcome

We would like to thank Valerie Funk for her outstanding work as student editor of the SOA Newsletter for the past two years. Valerie is from Aurora, Colorado, and will be moving to Boston to start a PhD program at Bentley University in the fall.

We welcome Jace Garrett as the new student editor. Jace is from Highland, Utah, and will graduate in April 2011 with his MAcc (professional stem).
