Wood Honored Again for Research

PROVO, Utah – Aug 29, 2017 – David Wood, associate professor of accountancy at the BYU Marriott School of Business, received the 2017 Accounting Horizons Best Paper Award presented by the American Accounting Association.

Wood’s winning article, “Comparing the Publication Process in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, Psychology, and the Natural Sciences,” was published in the September 2016 issue. The award was presented to the author in the form of a unique glass art piece and a $2,500 prize at the AAA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, on 8 August.

“David is a fearless researcher who explores areas that many young researchers would shy away from,” says Jeff Wilks, School of Accountancy director. “This most recent award-winning paper examines how the review process for accounting research differs from other business and non-business disciplines. He has shined a very bright light on shortcomings in our journals and among reviewers, and I am hopeful that we will see significant changes in the accounting academy because of the work David has done.”

With this year’s award, Wood has now won seven AAA best paper honors, the most of any researcher. A full-time faculty member at BYU Marriott since 2009, Wood teaches accounting data analytics, accounting information systems, and experimental research design. He received BS accounting and MAcc degrees from BYU Marriott before completing his PhD at Indiana University.
