Some cadets spend their Friday nights in an act of service -- cleaning up LaVell Edwards Stadium after the BYU football game.

Before the Holy War even began, both BYU and University of Utah’s Army ROTC joined forces to transport the game ball to Rice-Eccles Stadium.

On Tuesday, Sept. 11, a 24-hour flag vigil will be held in the Abraham Smoot Building courtyard to commemorate those who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

For some Ecuadorians, Brigham Young University's Army ROTC cadets gave a new meaning to the word lifeline as they provided the most crucial link between doctor and patient: communication.

When students first join ROTC, they are thrust into a life of early morning workouts, combat training and weekend warfare simulations.It definitely takes a special kind of person to keep up with the rigorous strain, both physical and mental, that Army cadets are put under. For someone who wasn’t even planning on joining the Army ROTC, Joel Woodruff has really made a name for himself by receiving one of the highest rankings in the nation.

The country of Atropia is in jeopardy. Its southern border is teeming with insurgents dead set on destabilizing the local government. But U.S. military forces have intervened and are trying to secure the southern border.

The stories how married couples met at BYU vary greatly. The pair could meet at a dance or in a student ward; even blind dates have been known to work out every once and awhile. For Derek and Lauren Rose, it was the Army ROTC that brought them together.

Traveling across the country to compete against all ranks of army personnel, the BYU Army ROTC Marksmanship Team shined at the U.S. Army Small Arms Championship.

Capt. David Jungheim, scholarship and enrollment officer, said BYU has won the Ranger Challenge 27 of the past 29 years — the other two years the team took second place.

The military is typically a male-dominated field, but that has not stopped women from positively infiltrating their ranks.Although seriously outnumbered, three female ROTC cadets expressed the enjoyment found participating in BYU’s ROTC program. 

At a time of wars and rumors of wars, Army ROTC cadets are making the choice to serve their nation and honor their religion.

It’s not unusual to see BYU students exercising at 6 a.m. What is unusual is seeing more than a hundred of them working out in matching uniforms.

On September 4, 2010, retired professional baseball legend, Vern Law, was welcomed onto the field by BYU Army ROTC.  Vern will have the honor of firing the George Q Cannon today to welcome the team onto the field.   

Amidst camouflage and battle cries Army ROTC cadets learned basic dodging, crawling and rolling recently to prepare them for future training and provide opportunities to exercise leadership skills. The cadets practice these Individual Movement Techniques called IMT’s to increase survivability on the battle field.

A Brigham Young University Army ROTC cadet won a national award and the opportunity to attend a National Security Seminar in Lexington, Va., joining top cadets from across the country at the Virginia Military Institute and Washington & Lee University. Robert Root, a recent political science graduate from Santa Clara, Utah, received the Marshall Award, a recognition given to the top cadet from each of the 273 Army ROTC units in the United States.

A member of Provo's Municipal Council will soon expand her role from serving the city to serving her country. Laura Cabanilla, a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserves, announced Monday she will be deployed to Kuwait in August. It will be her first deployment.
