Entrepreneur Club Hosts World’s Largest Rock Paper Scissors Competition

PROVO, Utah — Apr 05, 2007 — Rock, paper, scissors, GO! April 6 marks the day of what a group of Brigham Young University students hope will be the largest rock, paper, scissors competition on record. The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on the Deseret Towers field.

Hosted by BYU’s Collegiate Entrepreneur’s Organization, the competition is open to the general public and intended to make it into the Guinness World Records. Planners expect anywhere from 1,500 to 3,000 participants.

“Everyone knows rock, paper, scissors,” says Travis Tidball, the event’s marketing coordinator. “It’s really common but also unique in that there has never been a world record. We think it’s a good idea because everyone can associate with it.”

For the $5 entrance fee participants will get a free t-shirt and a chance to win the grand prize of $2,500. Competitors can register at the event or online at ceo.byu.edu. Proceeds will go into a fund to help students start their own businesses and to raise awareness of entrepreneurship.

“We’d love to help students who have viable business ideas and who we think will be able to support the fund by contributing back in the future,” Tidball says. “There are currently many students working with local mentors on growing and developing their ideas.”

The Marriott School is located at Brigham Young University, the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States. The school has nationally recognized programs in accounting, business management, public management, information systems, organizational behavior and entrepreneurship. The school’s mission is to prepare men and women of faith, character and professional ability for positions of leadership throughout the world. Approximately 3,000 students are enrolled in the Marriott School’s graduate and undergraduate programs.
