Money New Chair of Business Management

Marriott School of Management Dean Gary C. Cornia announced the appointment of R. Bruce Money, professor of marketing and international research, as chair of the Department of Business Management. He will assume the position beginning in July succeeding Michael Swenson, Ford professor of marketing.

"We are grateful for the excellent work and many hours Michael has contributed in his role as chair," says Cornia. "We are confident Bruce will excel and serve with distinction in the department."

Swenson joined the Marriott School faculty in 1989. He became department chair in 2002 and served for seven years. During that time the department hired 15 new faculty and promoted ten, taught 47,961 students, and published 229 peer-reviewed articles and 15 books. Additionally, an entrepreneurship group and finance department were created.

"The contributions of many have resulted in significant recognition and success for the Marriott School," says Swenson. "Now I look forward to dedicating more time to research and teaching.  After all, that's why I got into this business."

To select a new chair, the Marriott School sought input from business management faculty and university administration before asking Money to take the position. Money joined the Marriott School faculty in 2004 after teaching for nine years at the University of South Carolina.

"I appreciate the confidence BYU has placed in me to be a part of the leadership team at the Marriott School" says Money. "This is a terrific group of faculty and staff that have been great places and are going great places. I am happy to help them on to new heights."

The Marriott School is located at Brigham Young University, the largest privately owned, church-sponsored university in the United States.
