BUSINESS PLAN DEVELOPMENT
Project
All teams will receive the same product to market to the Utah Hispanic community. Teams NEED to learn about the product and about the target consumer before starting the development of the business plan. Teams should include the following three elements as part of their plan: (1) information on how and where they will reach the consumer, (2) the marketing message to be communicated to the target consumer, and (3) at least two marketing tools to be used in implementing the plan. These three elements constitute the bare minimum, but teams are also encouraged to go above and beyond. Bonus points will be awarded for teams who "get out of the building" and validate their assumptions by talking with customers!
Detailed guidelines for the business plan development will be sent to the coaches of the registered teams after the registration deadline. Each coach should distribute the information to his or her team members and read the guidelines with them, making sure they understand it completely. All team members must read the guidelines carefully and follow them accordingly.
Coaches
Students, not the coach, must prepare the business plan. The coach can assist the team by teaching the students general business and marketing principles as well as providing guidelines on how to write a business plan. However, the coach should not give specific suggestions for the development of the business plan (i.g. suggesting specific ideas on how to market the product). Coaches do not need to be Spanish speakers, but if they are, they may direct team members in grammar and business terms as needed. All high school teachers acting as coaches (one per team) will receive a $350 stipend for participation on the final day of the competition.

Judging

Teams will use a fictitious name assigned to them at the day of the competition. After each round of presentations is complete, judges will have ten minutes to deliberate and come to a decision.
All twelve teams will present in the first round of presentations in the morning. Judges will select six teams to present in the final round of presentations in the afternoon.
