Application Requirements

Applications to the BYU Marriott School Student Exchange Program (SEP) must be completed by a paper application supplied by your home institution coordinator. Acceptance to the SEP is for fall (September-December) and winter (January-April) semesters only and is based on reciprocity with your home institution. 

Requirements

  • Commitment to the mission of BYU and its sponsoring organization, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
    • Membership in the Church of Jesus Christ is not required for admittance to the program, but an understanding of and a commitment to support the church’s mission while studying for a semester at BYU are necessary. Please refer to the church’s website and the BYU Honor Code site for additional information about the mission of the church and BYU.
  • Academic ability as evidenced by GPA and business courses completed at home institution.
  • English Fluency: Exchange students are not required to have a specific TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score. Brigham Young University expects its partner institutions to evaluate the English proficiency of the students they send. All classes will be taught in English. As a guideline, the suggested proficiency scores are as follows:
    • TOEFL 550-600 Paper Test; subscore of at least 55 in each area 
        94 iBT; sub scores of 21 reading, 21 writing, 22 speaking, 21 listening
    • Michigan 75-90
    • IELTS 6.0-7.0
    • STEP Test 2A-Pre-1
  • Selection by your home institution. To participant in the SEP you must be selected and fulfill any prerequisites required by your home institution. Applicants who do not have approval from their home institution will not be considered for selection.
