Eccles Scholars Awards

The objective of the Eccles Scholars Awards program is to provide scholarships and additional financial support to MBA students who have a strong interest in and commitment to international business.

All first year MBA students enrolled in the Global Management Certificate program are eligible to apply for the Eccles Scholars Award program. This year up to 10 students will be selected to receive the award.

The factors that the committee will consider during the selection process are:

  1. Academic standing in the MBA program – this includes incoming GPA, GMAT score, and GPA in the first semester of the MBA program
  2. Prior international experience, including work experience
  3. Second language fluency
  4. Registration for the Global Management Certificate in the MBA program, which is the highest level of international business academic qualification for our students. To register for the certificate go to or visit the Whitmore Global Management Center at 360 TNRB
  5. Proven desire to pursue a career in business with a focus in international business

Application Process

Students are required to submit an application to be selected as an Eccles Scholar. The application process involves:

  • 2017 Eccles Scholars Award Application Form
  • A current résumé
  • A letter of intent explaining why you feel you should be considered for the Eccles Scholar and how you feel you meet the criteria established for the funding

Applications due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017, in 360 TNRB.


The required documents should be stapled together with the application form in the front of the packet, and submitted to Lisbeth Hopper at the Kay and Yvonne Whitmore Global Management Center, 360 TNRB, by end of business on Friday, January 13, 2017.. Application material submitted after the deadline and incomplete applications will not be considered in the selection process.

Applications will be reviewed by the committee and pre‚Äźselected students will be invited for an interview with a panel of staff, administrators, and international business faculty starting Tuesday, January 17, 2017

On Monday, February 20, 2017, the Eccles Scholars will be announced.

Eccles Scholars Award Amount

Students will be awarded up to $9,000 during their two academic years.

  1. At the end of the first year, students will receive a $3,000 scholarship which is subject to normal scholarship tax rules.
  2. Upon proof of registration for an approved international experience, a $3,000 travel award will be posed to the recipients’ student account through the Scholarship system.
  3. Students who complete their Global Management Certificate at the end of the 2nd year will receive an additional taxable $3,000 award, which will be paid after graduation.
  4. No portion of the award is transferable.

If an Eccles Scholar also receives the Hawes funds, he/she will not receive the latter $3,000 award.

The Eccles Scholars Award Program is for Global Management Certificate graduates only. If a recipient drops from the Global Management Certificate, the Whitmore Global Management Center will be allowed to withdraw the award.
