In the Market of Creating Opportunities

Inspired by the help and guidance he received from his peers and professors at the BYU Marriott School of Business, marketing senior Parker Stohlton decided to give back. Stohlton’s efforts eventually culminated with the creation of a program to help pre-business students land internships and gain valuable work experience. Driven by his passion for marketing and making connections with others, Stohlton works hard to pass on the baton to the next generation of BYU Marriott students.

As COVID-19 forced businesses to reevaluate how they operate in times of crisis, the normal practice of college students traveling to companies around the world to complete internships became untenable. However, in the midst of a global pandemic, the Marketing Lab at the BYU Marriott School of Business reinvented itself to help students have meaningful internship experiences. As students remotely worked on projects in the lab, they developed their skills and helped clients find the insights needed in an ever-changing and fast-moving world.

As a former singer in the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, Jeff Larson recognizes the value of carefully following instructions as he and his fellow choir members must follow their conductor precisely in order to create beautiful music. However, as an associate professor of marketing at the BYU Marriott School of Business, he encourages his students to look beyond the instructions they’re given and use their unique abilities to create digital marketing strategies that are new and different.

Dr. Glenn Christensen, an associate professor of marketing and Garrett Research Fellow at the BYU Marriott School of Business, has been recognized, along with his colleagues, for their research on minority entrepreneurs and the challenges they face when trying to acquire funding. They received the AMA-EBSCO Annual Award for Responsible Research in Marketing from the American Marketing Association and were named finalists for the first-ever Bradford-Osborne award from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.
